“ 2010 Western States Burro & Horse Expo” Reno, Nevada”
IN 2010, I painted and donated 5 original oil painting that were auctioned off and the proceeds given to the Expo to help pay for horse training, feed and misc expenses necessary to sponsor the Expo. Cindy Lawrence was my contact with the Expo Staff and we visited quite a bit during the summer months prior to the Expo. Her whole family currently owns and rides well trained wild Nevada horses, and the Expo is one of the best programs to save the horses that are rounded up in December. The Expo is held about mid August in Reno,NV so if you are a horse lover it is a good trip to attend the Expo and the horse and burro auction helps save the animals. Thank you Cindy for sharing your Expo and allowing us to share our paintings for your auction.

“ An American Bitter in the bulrushes”
Each year, the birding in Crex Meadows is a mystery because even when seeing certain birds, there is no guarantee you’ll see them again. In 2006 when the spring was dry, the water in the small lakes got shallow and this condition made it easier for birds like green heron, great blue heron and American bittern to fish for their food. The American bittern is in the Heron Family and is a wading bird with most of their activity in the late afternoon. They are the motionless, solitary bird and when in bulrushes many times will stand motionless and pointing their head up remaining completely camouflaged. In the spring, the male bittern will fluff up a white plumage on the upper part of his neck in hopes to allure a mate. Today’s original oil painting is on a 9” x 12” x 3/4” specially coated stretched canvas and can be view on www.ebay.com type my name Jim Springett and this painting will be listed. Enjoy today, and spring is coming.

“ Wisconsin’s Clam Lake Elk”
We have a growing herd of elk in North Central WI, near Clam Lake about 200 in the herd. Not large compared to the western herds, yet they continue to increase. The gray wolf occasionally makes a kill but not often. Elk were a part of the WI eco system long ago and so seeing this herd grow is exciting. Elk are the second largest in the deer family, the moose being first. A mature bull can weigh up to 1300 LB, and while his antlers are shed each year, he carries them for close to 6 months. Elk love the forest and forest edges, and In Eastern Europe a subspecies of the elk in North America is the Red Deer. The Shawnee and Cree name him Wapiti for white rump.
This is an original oil painting on a 11” x 14” x 3/4” stretched canvas and can be bid on my ebay site at www.ebay.com type my name Jim Springett and the list of current paintings will listed.

“ Nevada’s Wild Horse Program”
Nevada’s program is called Western Wild Burro and Horse Expo, and each year(about mid August) they have a roundup of some of the wild horses and burros, due to an over population on the BLM lands, so rather than destroy the animals they have the Expo to auction the animals from the earlier roundup. Folks come from all over America to take part in this auction and take some beautiful wild horses and burros back home. This original painting is called “Cindy’s paint” and Cindy was one of the event planners for 2010 Expo, and another Wisconsin artist and I painted 5 original paintings of these wild hose and burro. The paintings were donated to this auction and the proceeds were used to help with the costs to train and feed the animals. I painted this painted horse for Cindy, so for you horse lovers, who want to own some of the old bloodlines in America, plan a trip in about mid August, to Reno, NV and enjoy not only this beautiful country, but the horse and burro auction. Thank’s Cindy for saving these special animals, and allowing a couple of Wisconsin artist’s to also share their love of animals with your Expo.

“ The Glow and Aroma Of The Wild Iris”
Each summer, I look forward to seeing the wild flowers of Crex Meadows in Grantsburg,WI. The wild iris are beautiful and blossom along the wet marshes so wear your water boots to get some very good images and keep your feet dry. I’m thinking about the beauty and wonderful times in the summer, winter tends to do that to me, when looking out at the cold snow in the trees and all the lakes are frozen for about another 60 days, so we’re on the short side of winter, with the days definitely getting longer. In 2007 and 2008 my sister and mom were able to drive from Ohio to WI for a couple week’s visit and mom enjoyed being able to visit Crex Meadows and see the wild iris. It was one of her favorite wildflowers. I am very grateful for my parents and all the blessings they shared and most of all their love. This original oil painting is on a 9” x 12” stretched canvas and bids can be made on my ebay site at www.ebay.com type my name Jim Springett and you can view this wild iris painting and a few others too. If you get to visit Crex Meadows, toward the end of May into June look for the wild iris along the wet marches and be sure to bring your camera for those special memories. Have a good day.

Every January around the 9Th-10TH there is a beautiful full moon and with snow cover makes for a very bright atmosphere. “In The Land of Monarch Butterflies”
Such a dynamic and wonderful insect, the butterfly, first starting out as a caterpillar, then spinning a silk cocoon, sleeping over the winter months, and then comes the moment, when in full splendor and living color the monarch butterfly emerges from it’s winter sleep. In this original oil painting on a 12” x 9” x 3/4” stretched canvas this monarch butterfly is feeding on a Crex Meadow’s wildflower called butterfly weed, appropriate for all butterflies go to this wildflower and drink the nectar. This is a truly amazing insect, the Monarch butterfly starts it’s long migration journey late summer, heading south into Mexico. Most birds don’t like the taste of this butterfly so they do not get eatten by a lot of predators, so the long flight is a part of this miraculous life cycle and the circle goes unbroken, once again.
