In today's painting, the sandhill cranes are flying out of the refuge, feeding mainly on corn from the local farmers unharvested fields, and then later will fly back into the refuge to roost overnight.
Crex Meadows is a unique habitat and normally in NW WI you do not have such a compact area holding so many species, this is just not the way nature is working by her self, usually nature provides more of a safe haven. In this case man has stepped into the arena compounding, not naturally, the habitat and the interaction of all the species in such a compact area.
Have a great day.
