" a melody"

March is such a sweet month, after long cold winter nights, now there is more light and the snow and ice are giving way to the warmer sun. The migrating birds are making their way north, back home to prepare for the raising of their young...for anyone able to witness this great movement it is a great time in the year.

In today's oil painting, and original on a 11" x 14" stretched canvas...this mating pair of swans are in their splendid whites enjoying the newly formed water from ice and the warm sun makes for an enjoyable day.

In this year's Federal duck stamp competition the northern shoveler and the canada goose are the two birds in our area so this will be a fun time working and taking photographs to assist in this new painting. The Wisconsin duck stamp competition does allow for a more varied species and the painting of swans can be the bird of choice...they have made a remarkable recovery here in NW WI...we are very happy to see so many nesting trumpeteer swans and because they are protected they do not get hunted during the duck and goose hunting season.

Happy spring is upon us and where ever you live, watch the birds on their migartion back home or through your area.

Today's "blue sky" says spring is coming...the snow is melting and soon the grass will be greening...with pussy willow buds popping. Spring is a time of the year to celebrate..Happy St. Patrick's Day to all the Irish...and to those not Irish...happy March 17TH all day long.
To those of you who have lost a valued pet this past winter, I am sorry for your loss...I remember losing a dear one and each spring is kind of emotional..my friend will always be my friend...no years, months or days gone by or any strange situations will change the truth..he is a great soul. Thank you for being so loyal..

Ths acrylic painting sketch is good work to prepare for the 2010 duck stamp competition this year. These paintings are small at 7x10 and do not give the artists much artistic room. In this painting sketch you can see trying to fit a lot of detail makes for a very busy painting. Stay tuned to my blogs as I paint more ducks.

Beauty is beauty, a miracle in Miracle.

A good friend of mine, Stephanie was so gracious to allow me to use her images...in doing so she has helped me paint a painting in ha-yeli-kahn and to appreciate the love and devotion for such beautiful animals. Miracle is a white buffalo...born in 1994...living until 2004...so this painting shows her life cycle of 10 years March is such a beautiful month with winter ending and spring's doors opening wide...the snow is melting and the grass is slowly becoming green once again. The ah-ji-go is all four directions and for each of us a personal pledge of coming together. America was attacked very severly in Pearl Harbor but the very brave men of the Navajo Nation came to help as only they can help...and the Japanese enemies were defeated...a very honorable Nation of men and women near and far...we have much thanks giving and gratitude for their brave actions and bi-oh is more.
Help your neighbors and smile today...this is the beautiful kay-yah..This week I am doing studies in portriats and for the Western Horse and Burro Expo near Reno I'll be sharing my art this year...thank you for supporting and buying my art...and your comments are great...blessings to each of you..keep well.

" sunset at Crex"

by Jim Springett-artist on 3/11/2010 6:32:06 AM
Comment on this

This beautiful sunset was seen in Crex Meadows in 2007...and as you can see takes me a while to paint much of the beauty I see along the way. The colors are warm with the sun in it's red orange and those colors are mirrored on the water's surface and the trees on the bank are muted in their quiet stance...last night Marge and I joined a wonderful couple Anna and Kevin, for dinner, who are in the process of rearranging their lives so they can find a way so Kevin can work and be closer to home. Anna is a homemaker, while doing great photography in many areas. We met Anna and Kevin in the camera club in Spooner and have kept in touch since. I gifted this painting to them so when they are in their new home...they can see the beautiful "sunset on Crex" and remember all the beauty God has created here in Wisconsin.
I remember times with my parents, who are now gone, when the water was so quiet reflecting so many beautiful colors..in a lot of ways looking through the water and seeing all this beauty..I call this God's canvas, and is the most beautiful canvas on earth...constantly changing each moment of the day...never dull or boring and for me inspiring to capture some of these beautiful feelings along the way. Plein air painting can be a wonderful experience and is very challenging to capture the light's ever changing ways..
Enjoy your days and may God bless you greatly may all your sunsets be sweet..

"guardians...part II...trumpeter swans"

by Jim Springett-artist on 3/9/2010 6:46:08 AM
Comment on this

I think today...is a good day to just share some history..not so much about today..but when I was a very young boy...probably about age 5-6 it was Christmas, and after the celebration everyone put their Christmas trees out back in the alley to be picked up by the garbage hauling service...Christmas was over for that year but I can remember specically going down the alley...you could still do this in America in the ealy 50's...and I found a neighbor's small yet very beautiful  tree and I brought it back home..along the way I found all kinds of things to use to decorate this tree of mine...and so on my own level, at age 5, behind the garage I was thanking God for his son Jesus...what a pecaseful moment that was..close to 60 years ago...seesm like yesterday. When I look at these swans and the the magnificent beauty of God's creations here, it is rather hard for me to fathem our country using such force to solve problems...it seems to me that what the animals teach is just what the Lord wanted us to see...sort of a mirroring when we loose our way...I'd say we have lost our way and pounding with more force...I remember when I learned about God and his loving ways..to turn the other cheek..to love your enemies...why not break bread with them, have some tea and learn how to love one another...these past few years losing my parents to old age, diseases and sickness...that is a not what I remember...I remember the sweet moments...yes there were some not so sweet moments too..but I remeber a time when there was goodness in the land and goodness in our earth...so for today...just for a moment today..Id like to thank all the friends, and all the family near or far who wish us well..and to those who are riding on the fence..peace to you too...Marge and I retired to sort of find a new way of life here in the Northland..for me the old life was not working and becoming a real human being seemed to be worthy even if late in life...why not try to share your earthly gifts as an artist so here we are some about 4 years later...and I can say life out of the fast lane is anything but slow..quite the opposite is so many ways...learning about so many things that I did not learn along the way..is like having my own sort of quakes within...shattering old thoughts that have no place in today's truths and seeing not only with my eyes but with the best and trusest part of me, my heart...now that has been a good part of our new life...if I have caused any problems for my freinds I appologize here and now...hoping to make amends so that you may go honorably in peace and happiness. I was very moved not too long ago..a very wondeful native american friend sent me a letter about an American family..who just lost their son in the war in February and at that very moment I was painting a bald eagle..so I asked if possible to share my feeling with this family and I sent the painting to them in honor of John's life...who gave the supreme gift to our land to help his fellow man...no higher honor can one give above giving his or her life for the love of others...so today John...and to your family...your love is alive and well..in so many hearts across this land...who might never had the opportunity to know you we do now...a son of the son.. who too layed his life down for everyone...the essence of our land is that we have come to have a more abundant life...not so much in $ and sense...but in matters of the heart...when the matters of the heart are displaced watch out...and we are in the watch out state...

Enjoy your day...today smile a little, laugh often, and if you can help someone...no matter how small...that is a matter of the heart...and heaven smiles upon you...

Every once in a while I witness song birds in their winter plumage...this painting is a male pine grosbeak in Northern MN...the colors and his presence were extraordinary to view, their song very beautiful...both the male and female were close by and in my future paintings might include one of the female pine grosbeak too. The birding sites are in Mn is called Sax Zim bog area and is known for gray owls, hawk owls, and eagles plus the numerous wintering song birds. Visit this area near Meadowland,MN for an exciting birding experience during the winter.

" autumn air, sandhill crane in Crex

by Jim Springett-artist on 3/4/2010 9:00:34 PM
Comment on this

The autumn is a beautiful time, the very hot days of summer are giving rise to cool nights, and crisp frosty morning air...with the sandhill crane flying right after sunrise. In this painting the sandhill crane is leaving the refuge to feed in near by corn fields to return just before sunset.
With spring nearing, the trumpeter swans will lead the way, soon, followed by geese then the sandhill cranes with the potential for more snow before spring actually arrives. The cranes will be moulting with their auburn colored feathers returning and they will be dancing the dance of spring and welcoming their mates for their next nest.
