" Pansy Ferry Crossing on The St. Croix River"

In preparation for the annual Burnett Art Festival on August 7TH, this year we have a Burnett County historical theme, taking in the counties history going back to the mid 1800's during early state commerence along the river and throughout the entire county. In today's painting, a ferry is crossing the St. Croix River at the Pansy Crossing between the States of Wisconsin and Minnesota. For those of you interested, the public can participate and enter this historical part of this year's Art Festival. Go to the North Wind Art's Gallery in Siren and ask for an entrance sheet, for whatever historical art presentation you might want to present. You can call the Gallery on 1-715-349-8448 and ask for Jenny Goalen for details. There is a time line for submitting your work, so call soon.
Come and enjoy this historical journey into the history of  Burnett County, and support your local artists. See you there, and have a good evening.

" A mother's love"

Yep, a mom for the little people is today's story, in today's painting called, " a mom's love" this goose is staying close to her young gosling helping to keep them safe. Like people, there are life challenges everyday and constant vigilance is required. I love to watch these birds as they share all their beauty and grace. Our weather recently is fairly wet so the lakes and streams are improvoing which helps the water birds, after 3 years of drought  will still take quite a while to recover fully. Enjoy whatever wildlife you can see in your area and make a difference helping to maintain the habitat that supports wildlife thus beautifing the world we live in. Have a good day.

" A Rose is a Rose Is A Rose"

Today, June 23, 2010 Wednesday is a day to remember. Last summer my black Lab, proceeded to eat the wild rose I had just taken a picture of and that was that for that rose. In today's painting this wild rose was sen last Saturday in Crex Meadows in Grantsburg,WI on our dog walk and the light was beautiful so I decided to paint this wild rose today. When you walk among the roses the aroma is sweet and if the winds are not too strong will leave a good impresion along with the beauty of these delicate petals. Last year when I painted the wild rose in July and gifted to Marge on our anniversary, I could not help to think about my mom who was fighting for her life. We all have powerful moments of rememberence and this is one of them for me.
This painting is being listed on my website, at www.jimspringett.com look under my works portfolio and there is where you will find the wild rose and many other original oil paintings. Enjoy this day and God Bless.

This year like years in the past, early June is a floral abundance in Crex Meadows. Two weeks ago I was in Crex and saw this beautifil wild iris, and so this painting is a celebration, in honor of my mom, a year ago I gifted her with a beautiful wild iris painting she could have in her room in the nuring center, she proudly displaced this small 6x6 watercolor on her bulletin board. She loved the wild iris and when visiting us , we were able to show her these blooming beauties. Thanks for the beautiful flowers with such unique and wonderful colors. Enjoy the day and your flowers. In today's original oil painting this is a 12" x 9" on stretched canvas.

" A Trophy Mule Deer, Buck"

Every September, Marge and I go to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, for our fall journey to the badlands, and seeing all the wildlife the park has to offer. One of the very beautiful parts of fall is seeing the rut, and the mule deer are magnificent, as you will see in this painting. Their coming into the rut is a reminder of just how special the life cycle is even for deer, to sustain a healthy herd each year a systematic breeding followed by birthing the following spring, marks our calendars of the changing seasons, no clocks are necessary to tell the time of the year. The TRNP is very beautiul at this time in the year with the hardwoods changing colors along with the cottonwoods along the Little Missouri River changing thieir leaf color too. All the different grasses are so colorful in blues, reds, oranges and browns.  The buffalo are all herded, and their breeding having just finished in August and early September, now their birth calendars have been set too for April and May. The whitetail are located in spots along the Little Missouri River, and their breeding starts a little later in October and November. It is like painting each year, the seasons come and the seasons go, and we live our lives in the best way we know how to live. Enjoy your day.

" A baby loon" riding on mom's back

Have you watched the loon and how they raise their young,  a bit different from the other waterbirds. In today's oil painting, the mother loon is carrying her baby on her back, while the father loon is fishing for food, a family in harmony. WE love to see and to hear loon in NW WI and are very hapy to say we are seeing quite a few pairs, the babies are  being born now, so if you can visit Crex, come and drive on Main Dyke Road and you might enjoy this sight. Have a great day.

"Ranger, the fawn"

In today's blog, I have a story about a very beautiful, and sometimes very stuborn fawn, Marge and I called him "Ranger"...and on many ocassions when we were visiting the Willow River State Park, in Hudson,WI, we'd see Ranger standing all by himself and quite a distance from his mom, and she'd stamp her feet and snort telling him to come...but to no avail he just ignored her warning. And so we named him Ranger, because he was always exploring, we knew he was a buck by his behavior, and when he grew up, he became a magnificant buck. We're not sure which one he was, but from looking at his rack, of 10 points we'd say he was the King of the hill.

" A goose Watching His Family"

Crex Meadows is one of the gifts in NW Wisconsin, a wonderful bird santuary, full of life. This gander was close to his goose and their gosling that you can not see, but like all good fathers he was making sure everything was safe. I like that in the canada goose, and I like that they pair for life, like the trumpeter swan, so nature shares her secrests with people if they listen.

" A Loon Calls"

In today's painting of an American loon, have you been close to their feeding and nesting to hear that beautiful call? To me when I hear the loon calling seems to me to be a very sacred voice in the wilderness and make no mistake a loon is a loon.Marge and
I watch them feed, diving in deep water and resurfacing many yards away, showing
their great swimming skils, and when the young are born they ride on their parent's back,
nestled in safely for a nice swim, while the other parent dives for their morning breakfast.
We never take for granted this wonderful beauty, and for Marge and I the Crex Meadows
bird refuge is a home of kinds when not at home, so if you are in the area, or planning to
come to our area and visit, be sure to add the Crex Meadows to your list of places to visit.
Have a great Saturday and enjoy your birds.
