This is a beautiful view of the Little Missouri River as part of a larger buffalo heard, this bull and cows are crossing the river in the shallows. The colors in September, with ash trees a golden yellow and the sage a beautiful blue green help to showcase these badlands. This painting will be displayed for sale on August 7, in Siren,WI at the Burnett Art Festival at the lakeview Event Center. For those who gravitate toward the beautiful, today's painting, an original oil on a 9" x 12" stretched canvas, of the famous woodlilly wildflower. Visit the BAAG website at www.baagart.org and look at the amazing art being shared in our community, today is a great time to bring your family and all your friends, come and witness this beauty and learn more about our counties interesting history, have some lunch and a cold drink, relax and celebrate this summer with friends. We'll look for each of you, Marge and I both have a booth, so we'll have a lot of Burnett County wildlife art and photographs to share. Close to 1883, Theordore Roosevelt purchased some land 7 miles south of Medora,ND to start a cattle ranch, and a couple of his friends, from back east, came and helped him build this log cabin. This is an original oil painting of the Maltese log cabin on a 11" x 14" coated masonite hard board. I'm am going to continue to paint more ND history over the next couple of weeks for our Art Festival on August 7TH at the Lakeview Event Center in Siren,WI, from 0930 AM until 530 PM. Come and see the history, young and old will enjoy this event.

" A bull buffalo in September in Theodore Roosevelt National Park"

The seasons come and the seasons go, we like the 4 seasons and with them the changes the great earth goes through, helps to remind us all about the changing times and what we love about the fall is the coming from the very hot summer, now back to the cool fall temperatures. And the warm fall colors in all the grasses and the trees, all these very rich colors, warm, reminding us soon the cools of blue white snow will cover the land and not until March will be see the earth and see the new life in the vibrant greens and yellow green colors.  Just think 6 months the earth has short days and long nights, with bone chilling temperatures, and the great lands teaming with wildlife do not rest, but work continuously to find their daily bread, no rest unless you are a bear in hibernation, or a groundhog who will wake up and look at his shadow if the sun is shinning, on February 2 to learn whether we'll see 6 weeks more winter before spring.
On this wonderful trip to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the visit is not complete until we see many of the sacred and beautiful bison, or great bufflao. On this sunny afternoon, this bull buffalo was up against the hillside getting great sun and warmth, to warm his bones before nightfall, as the nights go down to 25 degress and the stars shine brightly with not a cloud in the sky, only millions of stars and maybe a full moon to illumintae the night. In the mornng you can see your breath and the truck has a coating of ice crystals on the windshield, so a thermos of coffee and the camera in hand and out the camper we go, to make a trip through the park in hopes of seeing the great elk herds, or more of the great bison. This is a small microcosmos of the days of old, when the prairie was full as far as the eye could see of the great buffalo. Enjoy this bull buffalo, and if you plan to come to the Art Festival in Siren, on August 7TH, this painting will be available, for sale, along with many other beautiful works, yet to be painted in the next two weeks, a fresh body of works, come and visit and celebrate these are the days.

Theodore Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch, North Dakota

In May of 2002, Marge and I went to Medora,ND and part of our trip was spent at a small site just North of Medora about 40 miles, the site of Theodore Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch in the 1880's. We arrived just shortly after lunch, and walked on the East side of the Little Missouri River, until I came to a cedar post, that was for sure the marker where Theodore Roosevelt stood and took his photo of his great Elkhorn ranch.  In various historical presenattions of Theodore's photo this was the spot, so I proceeded to take photos of the landscape in the area. On that day the Little Misouri River was cloudy or murky with fine silt from heavy rains in the past few days, so even with a very blue sky the river was a brownish color. Upon returning home later that summer I prepared and built a frame and stretched a canvas to sketch this image and painted in oils. A close friend of the family, who lives in Medora,ND, Norma Myer, has this beautiful painting hanging in her "Nut Shop" off the main street of Medora.
This year I have been painting Burnett County historical paintings of NW Wisconsin and I will continue to paint more historical sites for the rest of the year.
The Burnett Area Arts Group (BAAG), 2010's Art Festival is on August 7TH, at the Lakeview Event Center in Siren,WI, from 0930 AM until 530 PM, come and enjoy this galla event, and see NW Wisconsin's early history.

" The Webster,WI Fair, commission"

Each year at the Webster,WI fair, our art group, BAAG, puts together a booth and shares the story of this year's coming Art Festival in Siren,WI on August 7TH, at the Lakeview Event Center from 0930 AM until 430 PM. This year our event is centered around Burnett County and the history of this important NW Wisconsin county. As I was walking to our fair booth, a couple who run one of the food booths asked me about doing a commission, painting their food booth at this years fair, and so I said yes. Later that evening just before supper, I took my camera and did some photos of this food booth, and so this is today's finished painting, exactly one week after accepting the job. This past Monday, I sketched the image on a 11" x 14" masonite hard board that I coated last Saturday. On Tuesday I started to paint, and each day painted about 4-5 hours until finishing today. I'm letting the painting dry overnight and varnish in the morning, then tomorrow ship to Ladysmith,WI, to it's new home. This has been a very good experience and the amount of detail is incredible.

" A trumpeter swan in the birches"

The magnificence of the trumpeter swan can be seen each summer in Crex Meadows, Grantsburg,WI.  These endangered birds are making a remarkable come back here in Wisconsin, and each year more young cygnets are born and grow to adulthood, making the migration south for their wintering months, before returning the next spring in early March. Right now the cygnets are about half grown, and near the North Fork area a trumpeter swan family can be seen with their young. If you live in this area by all means check out this miracle of miracles. Enjoy.

" A man called, Sitting Bull"

Jimmy’s eNews-Letter    Springett Images LLC

Theme: The Lakota Nation, and Sitting Bull, Great Chief and Liberator

Medium: Oil

Price: $ Gifting to the Western Horse and Burro Expo, in Reno,NV over August 20-22 (For the auction)

Framed: No

If you and your family, or friends are going to be in the Reno,NV area on August 20-22, plan to visit the great Western Horse and Burro Expo. A small group of NW Wisconsin artists received word from Cindy Lawrence, about this great Expo show, and the horses that are born wild in the NV territory are rounded up every few years due to over population on the BLM lands, and this Expo is a way to save these great animals, so many people from all over America come with good intentions of returning to their homes with a few new friends. Such a great story. So a few of us thought we'd paint their wild horses and burros in their wild settings and send back to them to be offered in their auction. The money helps all the other donations, keeping the dream and all the animals alive and in good homes, thanks to the countless hours of hard work, many with no pay what so ever, just the love in their hearts. We thank these great people and the great gifts they share.

In today's painting, one of my wishes this year was to paint a great Lakota Indian Chief, and this week I am completing a painting of the great Sitting Bull. I have been reading a great deal about the great Lakota Nation and their history, mostly about their people and the very difficult times they were given, even after treaties were written and signed that did not mean they were honored. So I want to dedicate this painting, to this very loving people that live in their own land but who are not so easily remembered and my wish is that a great blessing comes over our land to honor our fellow citizens of the great Lakota Nation. I'll probably tweek this painting more today after lunch, then set aside to dry, preparing to varnish then ship to Reno, NV. Then my work has just begun in prepartion for our Burnett Area Arts Festival on August 7 TH. I'll be sending post cards to remind everyone of this great art show coming to Siren, WI, in the Lakeview Event Center, across the street from Crooked Lake, next to Radio Shack. Come and see the fabulous Burnett County history of the mid 1800's.

Until the next newsletter, stay well, and may God bless you and your family.

"Namekogon River Bridge Crossing" on Wisconsin State Road-1854

by Jim Springett-artist on 7/6/2010 8:27:29 PM
Comment on this

Today's painting, is another Wisconsin historical setting of a stage wagon with passengers crossing the Namecogon River in 1854. This Wisconsin State Road from Hudson to Superior was a part of the early commerce, and stage wagons , and/or stagecoaches traveled on this importatnt road. The Namecogon River was important for moving cut logs, and floating the logs down river to the key saw mills, with white pines being the tree of the hour.

This painting will be displayed at the Burnett Area Art Festival on August 7TH, in the Lakeview Event Center in Siren,WI from 0930-500PM. Come and see the history of Burnett County in mid 1800's, and hear local historian, Clayton Jorgenson speak about the early times in NW Wisconsin.
